Restrictions for journalists in the National Assembly and a study of existing practice show that these restrictions have nothing to do with ensuring security. They are aimed at restricting the work of journalists and hindering their professional activities. This was stated by the head of the Public Relations Department of the Office of the Ombudsman of Armenia Nune Hovsepyan during the discussion on the topic “Against restrictions on the press, for the right to freedom of speech and information”.
The representative of the Ombudsman stressed that there are no grounds for restricting the work of journalists in the parliamentary box.
“In particular, there were cases when journalists were expelled from there, when they felt that some kind of incident was brewing. There was also a case when journalists were expelled immediately after covering an incident that had arisen for some time. There was no legal basis for restricting the rights of journalists,” Hovsepyan said.
