The presidential candidate of Uzbekistan Alisher Kadyrov again stepped on his sore spot – the topic of migrants. This time, he proposed to impose taxes on Uzbeks working abroad, a Podrobno.uz correspondent reports.
Kadyrov believes that all migrants should pay income tax. Here we are most likely talking about those persons who work in other countries on a frequent basis, usually illegally, or receive salaries in envelopes. Obviously, this populist statement will not bring much popularity to the presidential candidate, and how he was going to reveal who gets how much and on what basis should pay this tax.
We also add that Uzbekistan, Russia and Kazakhstan – and these are the two main countries for migrants – have agreements on the avoidance of double taxation. So, officially employed migrants in these countries already pay all the necessary taxes.
