The provisional government of Afghanistan, formed by the Taliban movement, pledges to fully pay off debts to Uzbekistan for electricity. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov announced this on Saturday in an interview with Russian journalists.
According to him, Uzbekistan held discussions with representatives of the interim government, who are responsible for the energy sector, including the Electric Networks of Afghanistan company.
“An agreement was reached that as soon as the situation allows – and there are a number of challenges associated with the functioning of the banking system in this country and with the recognition of the interim government – colleagues from Afghanistan will immediately pay off all the debt that exists. But, despite this, we continue to supply electricity,” the Deputy Prime Minister is quoted as saying to TASS.
