The press service of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan made an official statement, which says that one of the detained by the State Security Service in the Kashkadarya region for participating in a religious extremist group was not a deputy imam.
On October 31, media and social networks disseminated information from the National News Agency of Uzbekistan about the detention of an extremist jihadist group in the Kashkadarya region. In particular, it said that the detainees included the chairman of the mahalla committee, a secondary school teacher, a deputy imam, a local entrepreneur and seasonal workers.
A check carried out by officials of the Muslims Office of Uzbekistan showed that the detainee, who was called the “deputy imam”, is not really such.
