A mission of the World Health Organization (WHO) has begun work in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Ministry of Health.
Health Minister Dmitry Pinevich met with WHO representatives today. He greeted the guests and noted that the relationship with WHO is long-term and has a long history. “In any country, the WHO mission is welcome guests. But Belarus is a special country, from my point of view, in terms of interaction with WHO – our interaction is structural, stable and in many respects exemplary. In particular, our program of demographic security and people’s health was developed according to the recommendations experts from the World Health Organization, “he said.
The minister recalled that one of the WHO missions arrived in Belarus at the very beginning of the pandemic, when experts came and assessed a set of measures aimed at combating coronavirus.
“Zero patient with coronavirus in the country appeared in February 2020, and we started working with WHO in November-December 2019. The developed plan to combat covid was largely related to the recommendations of WHO specialists. Interaction with WHO and other UN international organizations is taking place on various aspects, including sustainable access to high-quality and inexpensive medicines, “said Dmitry Pinevich.
The minister also touched upon the most pressing topic – the crisis on the border. “We are grateful to receive you in this difficult time. WHO was created to, among other things, respond to emergencies. The best specialists who can assist us are here today. We are completely open and ready to interact on any issues. “, – he said.
