A comparative analysis carried out over 12 months until June 30, 2021, showed that Turkmenistan not only ranks last in the world in terms of Internet speed, but also lags far behind the rest of the countries included in the last five. Cable.co.uk , a UK- based telecommunications provider comparison publication , has conducted over 1.1 billion tests in 224 countries and territories worldwide.

According to the findings, the average Internet speed in Turkmenistan during the research period was 0.5 megabytes per second, which is an absolute anti-record among the countries of the world. At the same time, in terms of Internet speed, Turkmenistan lags behind African countries such as Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and Ethiopia by more than two times. The closest rival of Turkmenistan in terms of this indicator, Yemen, showed an Internet speed of 0.68 Mbps.
