Omicron-strain of coronavirus was detected in two people who flew to Russia from South Africa, the press service of Rospotrebnadzor told reporters on Monday.

“In two patients with a positive PCR test, obtained on the first day of stay at the observatory, as a result of genome-wide sequencing carried out by the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, the omicron strain was confirmed,” the message says.

In total, according to the department, a positive PCR test was detected in 10 citizens who arrived from South Africa. Currently, experts are identifying the strains.
