Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has stated earlier today that the government plans to invest 100 million GEL (about $32,292,440/€28,577,144) in the development of Georgian basketball.
During a meeting with Georgian Basketball Federation President Paata Guraspauli, Garibashvili noted that the launch of a basketball development programme for the ‘popularisation of basketball’ is also on the agenda.
He also emphasised the importance of the upcoming 41st edition EuroBasket 2022 which will be co-hosted by Georgia in September 2022, and noted that ‘National Basketball Federation has the full support of the government.’
“We must successfully hold the EuroBasket, it should be one of our main tasks and then we should think about development. We need to take basketball to an even higher level and promote it in the country,” said Garibashvili.
