The special commission of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan studied the documents and materials, heard representatives of the General Prosecutor’s Office, State National Security Committee, lawyers of MPs Asilbek Jeenbekov and Torobai Zulpukarov in connection with the motion of the General Prosecutor for their criminal prosecution. Both lawmakers were detained on May 31 on corruption charges in connection with Kumtor project probe.
The commission said MPs Jeenbekov and Zulpukarov were taken into custody and were prosecuted in violation of the article 78 of the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic, i.e. without approval by the majority of the Parliament.
In connection with entry of revised Criminal Procedural Code into force, both MPs should be released from remand prison, the commission members said.
