The State Committee for National Security (GKNB) reacted to the information that all charges were dropped from the ousted President Askar Akayev, who is being held in the Kumtor case, and the criminal case was dropped.

The GKNB reported that the investigation of the criminal case against Akayev is ongoing and the charges have not been dropped.

On December 20, Akayev’s associate, Bekbolot Talgarbekov, told the media that all charges against Akayev had been dropped and he could now safely visit Kyrgyzstan.

“His interrogations are completely over. Interrogations revealed that he did not have a single share in [the Canadian company] Centerra and that he did not take a single cent. Now the road is open for Akayev. He now works a lot, even received the prestigious Lomonosov Prize. If he finishes his active work, then of course he will return to Kyrgyzstan,” Talgarbekov said.
