The Ministry of Internal Affairs has developed a new law on countering extremist activities. The department put the project up for public discussion.
As noted in the justification reference, the current law was adopted in August 2005 and has been repeatedly amended. In addition, there have been significant changes in the country’s legislation, especially in the criminal, criminal procedure and criminal executive.
“The practical work of law enforcement agencies has revealed the need for legislative consolidation of all subjects countering extremist activity and the definition of their main competencies in this area,” the statement says.
The main goal of the bill is to protect human rights and freedoms, the foundations of the constitutional order, territorial integrity and national security of Kyrgyzstan from extremist activities.
