President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed Decree No. 14 “On calling a republican referendum” on January 20, BelTA was told in the press service of the head of state.
In accordance with the document, the republican referendum on the issue of introducing amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus is scheduled for February 27, 2022.
The decree defines the wording of the question submitted to the referendum, which is reproduced verbatim in the ballot paper: “Do you accept amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus?”
Amendments and additions to the Constitution submitted to a referendum shall be attached to the decree.
Taking into account the requirements established by the Electoral Code, the binding legal force of the decision adopted by the republican referendum is fixed. The procedure for the entry into force of such a decision is determined – 10 days after its official publication. It is established that the decision adopted by the referendum is an integral part of the Constitution.
