US Ambassador to Moscow John Sullivan passed on Wednesday at a meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko Washington’s written response to the Russian draft bilateral treaty on security guarantees.
“During the meeting, the head of the American diplomatic mission handed over the written response of the US administration to the draft bilateral treaty on security guarantees previously presented by the Russian side,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The meeting took place at the request of the US Ambassador.
Earlier, US Ambassador to Moscow John Sullivan visited the Russian Foreign Ministry. The fact that the United States gave Russia a written response was previously reported on Twitter by Bloomberg journalist Jennifer Jacobs. “The US’s written response to Russia has already been handed over,” she said.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking at a government hour during a plenary meeting of the State Duma, said that Russia would not publish the US response on security guarantees if such a request were received. At the same time, he noted that the essence and content of Washington’s reaction will be conveyed to the public.
