Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of Justice to analyze, by May 1, 2022, the legislation on regulating the activities of non-profit organizations (NPOs) and the media that act as foreign agents. Minister of Justice Konstantin Chuichenko, Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov, and adviser to the head of state Valery Fadeev were appointed responsible for the implementation of the order, according to a statement published on the Kremlin website.
“Analyze jointly by the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Council under the President of the Russian Federation for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights the legislation of the Russian Federation on the regulation of the activities of NGOs that perform the functions of a foreign agent, including in terms of their exclusion from the register of relevant organizations, and the practice of its application”, –says in the order.
If necessary, responsible persons must submit proposals for improving the legislation of the Russian Federation.
Earlier it became known that the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation expanded the register of media-foreign agents, including eight opposition journalists, activists and artists. The list included writer and publicist Viktor Shenderovich, activists Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Veronika Nikulshina, gallery owner Marat Gelman, journalist Taisiya Bekbulatova, Andrey Alekseev, Elena Vladykina and Ivan Belyaev.
On January 11, Shenderovich (an individual acting as a foreign agent) announced his forced departure from Russia . The suit of businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin prompted him to leave.
