On February 3, Deputy Head of the Transport Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sarykul Zholanov held a briefing on the progress of the investigation of criminal cases related to mass riots at transport facilities that took place in January 2022. This was reported by the MIA “Kazinform” with reference to the press service of the Transport Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Sarykul Zholanov noted that currently the country’s law enforcement agencies are carrying out operational-search and investigative actions aimed at identifying persons involved in crimes and offenses during the rallies.
According to him, the department and its territorial divisions in the period from January 3 to January 31 of this year. 72 criminal cases were registered on mass riots. It is mainly about theft and robbery. On suspicion of committing crimes, 14 suspects were placed in a temporary detention center. As of January 31 this year. the preliminary amount of the declared damage at transport facilities amounted to 530,792,668.8 tenge.
