The term for consideration of applications for Russian citizenship in the general procedure can be reduced from one year to three months. The norm will also apply to people receiving political asylum, refugees and military under contract in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, TASS reports.
Agency notes that the corresponding bill was submitted to the State Duma by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the end of 2021. The document assumes that decisions on admission to citizenship will be made in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In addition, the bill proposes to give the head of state more powers to determine the categories of persons who can be allowed to obtain simplified citizenship of the Russian Federation. The document also provides for the termination of Russian citizenship for persons guilty of a number of serious crimes against the state.
