In the city of Batumi, residents of an apartment building demanded from the mayor’s office to transfer them to a safe place after a rather strong earthquake of magnitude 6.2 hit Georgia the day before.

Residents of house No. 55 on Mayakovsky Street claim that the building has been in disrepair for many years, and the elements destroyed it even more and new cracks appeared in it. Several dozen people said that it was not safe to live in this building and spent part of the night on the street. Irakli Devadze, Deputy Director of the Municipal Services Service, met with the residents of this building. He promised to transfer citizens to a safe place in the next day.

A fairly strong earthquake in the Dmanisi region near the border of Georgia with Armenia occurred on February 13 at 22:25 local time.

The issue of emergency housing became especially relevant after the tragedy in the center of Batumi – on October 8, 2021, a five-story residential building on May 26 Street collapsed. Then nine people died, including three children.
