President Sadyr Japarov offered the Kyrgyz people to buy gold against the backdrop of depreciation of the som and an increase in the exchange rate of foreign currencies. The head of state published such an appeal on his Facebook page on February 28.
Zhaparov said that perhaps in the near future Kyrgyzstan “will face great pressure” on the national currency. He noted that “the value of any currency is constantly decreasing” and “only the price of gold rises” and it “never loses its value.”
“Therefore, our citizens who have money can buy gold bars from 1 gram to 13 kilograms in any volume from the National Bank. There are no restrictions, including for export abroad, and no fee will be charged. We have created such conditions. Better save your capital with gold instead of paper money,” the president advised.
