The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a case on incitement to violence against Russians in connection with the actions of Meta employees. The company’s actions are qualified as public calls for extremism and assistance to terrorism, according to the website of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
“A criminal case has been initiated in the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia in connection with illegal calls for murder and violence against citizens of the Russian Federation by employees of the American company Meta, which owns the social networks Facebook and Instagram,”— says in the message.
Earlier, Meta, due to the events in Ukraine, temporarily lifted the ban on incitement to violence on its social networks Facebook and Instagram. Company spokesman Andy Stone confirmed that the calls are now allowed against the Russian military, but are not allowed in relation to the civilian population.
