Ukrainians in Poland will be able to convert hryvnia banknotes into Polish zlotys from the middle of next week as part of a central bank program for refugees who have encountered difficulties exchanging money.
It is reported by Reuters with reference to the National Bank of Poland.
It is noted that many exchange offices and banks have so far been reluctant to accept the hryvnia, given the excess currency due to the large number of refugees entering Poland, and concerns about its depreciation.
“Due to the significant influx of refugees from the war from the territory of Ukraine, who enter the Republic of Poland with hryvnia in the form of cash, the National Bank of Poland is conducting intensive preparations for converting hryvnia into zloty,” the central bank said in a statement.
According to the report, banknotes of 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 hryvnias will be exchanged for a total of 10,000 hryvnias per person.
