Residents of the village of Pristan-Karakol are sounding the alarm. Two kilometers from the settlement there is a landfill, a cattle burial ground and a reservoir with wastewater from Karakol. With the onset of spring and an increase in air temperature, the smell in the village is unbearable.
In addition, residents note that sewage, along with groundwater, enters Issyk-Kul Lake along the Karakol River, which runs along these areas. The dam of the reservoir with wastewater may break due to the possible opening of a new landfill, and then the entire Issyk-Kul region will face an ecological disaster.
The mayor’s office of Karakol decided to pay attention to the appearance of the city and close the existing landfill located along the road Karakol – Pier. The municipality wants to open a new landfill in the village of Boru-Bash, but local residents are against it.
According to Vice Mayor Chyngyz Bapaev, the mayor’s office helped Bor-Bash by donating a land plot on which the water intake is located to the village free of charge in 2021.
