On May 9, when Moldova celebrates Victory Day over fascism, the fine for wearing the St. George ribbon will be applied to both ordinary citizens and event organizers. The clarification was made by PDS MP Olesya Stamate, chairman of the commission on legal issues, appointments and immunity.
“This applies to both an individual and a legal entity, depending on who uses it. Individuals can be sanctioned for their use,” Stamate said.
The MP noted that the decision of the PDS to ban this symbolism is appropriate in the context of the war in Ukraine. Stamate also said that until May 9, the PAS deputies are obliged to explain to citizens why they do not need to use the St. George ribbon.
– It is important to talk to citizens, to tell why it is important right now, in this rather complex and rather fragile context in which we find ourselves, and to bet on their understanding. By May 9, since this is a sensitive date, these actions must be taken, and we, together with our colleagues, must explain to the citizens why we did this, why we made this decision and what our expectations are regarding the behavior of everyone who will celebrate May 9,” – said the deputy.
