The season for the production of silkworm cocoons has started in Turkmenistan . In the villages of the Lebap velayat, which is the largest producer of cocoons in the country, gren (silkworm butterfly eggs) were distributed to families growing cotton.
They give out 5 grams of grain per hectare of leased area, correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report.
This year, it is planned to produce 2,300 tons of silkworm cocoons in Turkmenistan, including 300 tons in Akhal velayat, 50 tons in Balkan, 500 tons in Dashoguz, 1,010 tons in Lebap, and 440 tons in Mary velayat. Previous years the plan in Turkmenistan was 2100 tons of silkworm cocoons.
Cotton growers are forced to grow cocoons, otherwise they threaten to take away the land. The cocoons must be handed over by May 20, but it is not known at what price the Türkmen ýüpek (Turkmen silk) joint-stock company will accept them.
