Azerbaijan’s state energy firm SOCAR purchased three tankers from the Greek company Okeanis Eco Tankers (OET) for $120 million, the company said.
Tankers Nissos Therassia, Nissos Heraclea and Nissos Schinousa were built six years ago.
Vessels with a deadweight of 115,000 tonnes, a length of 252 metres and a width of 45 metres will be transferred to Azerbaijan in the third quarter of 2021.
SOCAR’s tanker fleet will exceed 40 vessels after the purchase.
The state-owned company has Suezmax and Aframax-class tankers for the transportation of bulk cargo across the oceans.
In the spring of 2020, the first Lachin tanker manufactured in Azerbaijan at a new shipyard with a deadweight of 7,875 tonnes, a length of 141 metres and a width of almost 17 metres was launched.
The vessel is involved in the transportation of goods for SOCAR in the Black and Mediterranean Seas.
