Belarus mirroredly declared two Lithuanian diplomats persona non grata for activities incompatible with the status of a diplomatic officer.
BELTA was told about this by the head of the information and digital diplomacy department, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Anatoly Glaz, in response to a question whether the Belarusian Foreign Ministry would respond to the expulsion of two Belarusian diplomats from Lithuania.
“We regard today’s decision by Vilnius to expel Belarusian diplomats as a completely unjustified step. One of the logical explanations is that Lithuania is deliberately increasing the degree of escalation in relations with Belarus,” said a Foreign Ministry official. As a result, ordinary citizens on both sides of the border will suffer even more, as it becomes difficult to resolve consular and other pressing issues, not to mention freedom of movement, communication, contacts in mixed families, and so on. “
“You can turn it around as much informationally as you like, but in actual history, this step will be recorded as an unmotivated initiative of the Lithuanian side. Following the principle of reciprocity, today we were forced to take mirror measures and declare two Lithuanian diplomats persona non grata for activities incompatible with the status of a diplomatic They were asked to leave Belarus within seven days,” said Anatoly Glaz.
