On 9 June 2021, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov met with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani in Tashkent, UZ DAILY reported.
During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on key issues on the agenda of bilateral cooperation and the prospects for deepening partnership between the two countries in the political, trade, economic, investment, transport, logistics and cultural and humanitarian spheres.
The parties highly appreciated the results of the bilateral political consultations held between the foreign ministries of Uzbekistan and Qatar in February this year in Doha, and also stressed the importance of continuing an active intergovernmental dialogue. The progress in the implementation of the “Road Map” for the implementation of the agreements reached in the course of previous bilateral meetings and events, and topical issues in this area were considered.
Significant opportunities were noted for the development of cooperation in the investment sphere in such areas as energy, agriculture, food and chemical industries, production of building materials, transport and tourism, for the implementation of which the parties will soon work to attract potential counter-partners from among Uzbek and Qatari entrepreneurs. The parties highlighted the existing opportunities for the participation of Qatari companies in the implementation of projects in the energy, oil and gas, chemical and petrochemical sectors.
In order to deepen partnership in the investment sphere, an agreement was reached to intensify negotiations to agree on an Agreement on the Encouragement and Reciprocal Protection of Investments between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the State of Qatar.
Significant untapped potential in the field of mutual trade was noted. An agreement was reached on a joint study of possibilities for increasing trade, preparing proposals for eliminating existing trade barriers and substituting imports from third countries.
