Consumer inflation in Ukraine in May in annual terms – compared to May 2020 – amounted to 9.5%, accelerating from 8.4% in April, UNIAN reported.
According to the website of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, inflation in the consumer market in May compared to April 2021 amounted to 1.3%.
It is noted that in January-May 2021 inflation was 8.0%.
In May, in annual terms – compared to May 2020 – prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 9.9%. Sunflower oil, eggs, sugar, and bread went up the most (by 75.2-13.4%).
Prices for meat, pasta, grain products, oil, and fermented milk products increased by 5.4-10.3%. At the same time, vegetables fell in price by 13.1% and fruits by 0.7%.
Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased by 9.3%.
The increase in prices (tariffs) for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 35.3% was mainly due to the rise in prices of natural gas by 161.6% and electricity by 36.6%.
Prices for transport increased by 12.2%, primarily due to higher fuel and oil prices by 37.4%, travel in rail passenger transport – by 12.0%. Road transport also rose in price by 7.0%.
