The leaders of the G7 countries issued a statement in which they called on the Belarusian authorities to hold new fair elections in the country, condemned the attempt by the Belarusian leadership on human rights and promised to introduce new sanctions against those responsible, TOTAL.KZ reported, citing Interfax reports.
“We call on the regime: to change course and implement all the recommendations of the independent expert mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe within the framework of the Moscow Mechanism; enter into a constructive dialogue with all sectors of society; to hold new free and fair elections, ”the final communiqué of the G7 summit said.
The document also emphasizes that the G7 leaders “are deeply concerned about the continuing attacks by the Belarusian authorities on human rights, fundamental freedoms and international law, such as the forced landing of flight FR4978 and the arrest of an independent journalist and his companion.”
