Belarus has withdrawn its earlier consent to the appointment of Julie Fisher as US Ambassador to Minsk. The American side was also offered to reduce the number of its embassy in Minsk to 5 people by September 1. This was announced to journalists at the Foreign Ministry of Belarus, BelTA informs.
The journalists asked if there are details about the statements of the Belarusian side that it will conduct an analysis and take adequate measures in connection with the new restrictions imposed by the United States against Belarus.
“Yes, of course, but there is a certain ethics in diplomacy, and we will not voice them all publicly. The American side, on the other hand, has substantively communicated our response to their unfriendly and even aggressive actions at the Foreign Ministry during a meeting with Charge d’Affaires Ruben Harutyunyan,” – said the press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Anatoly Glaz.
He noted that the two countries have come a long way in recent years to bring diplomatic relations to a more or less acceptable level. “Therefore, it is a pity that the impudent and openly hostile actions of the American side, as well as the actions of its individual representatives that do not completely fall under the notion of diplomacy and professionalism, destroyed the practices of our predecessors and forced us to withdraw the previously issued consent of the Republic of Belarus to the appointment of Julie Fisher as the US Ambassador to our country.” – said the spokesman.
According to him, the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations clarifies such situations, so there should be no misunderstanding here. “But, if necessary, we will explain. But against the background of Washington’s actions to reduce cooperation in all spheres and economic strangulation of our country, we also quite objectively see no point in the presence of such significant personnel of the American diplomatic mission in Belarus. It is simply not clear what to do against such a background. “In this regard, the American side has been proposed to reduce the number of its embassy in Minsk to 5 people by September 1. Actually, such a completely understandable logic will be taken into account in the event of a further decrease in bilateral cooperation at the initiative of the United States.”
