More than a hundred people came to a rally in Almaty in support of the rights of people with disabilities. The rally participants demand to index disability benefits and speed up the solution of other problems.
In particular, as Karaganda human rights activist Zhanibek Baitokov noted, about 2 million people in Kazakhstan have disabilities, but not all of them can receive benefits. Moreover, the disability allowance is only 35,000 tenge, and not everyone has a job.
“People with disabilities spend 1,000 tenge per day. According to UN standards, people with disabilities in Kazakhstan are among the poor, not the poor,” the human rights activist said.
In connection with the increase in the minimum wage to 60 thousand tenge, people with disabilities demand an increase in benefits by 41%. And those who care for people with disabilities receive an allowance of 50,000 tenge. At the same time, they work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but receive only 70 tenge per hour, Baytokov notes.
