In Almaty on Wednesday, about a centurion of couriers of the Wolt delivery service went to a protest at the company’s office, Vlast.kz reported.
They claim that the company increased the number of couriers ahead of the summer season, and as a result, their income decreased by 30-50%.
According to the protesters, all expenses – medical expenses, for the purchase of vehicles, its repairs and payment of fines – now lie with the couriers themselves, and after the reduction in wages, money is only enough to buy food and pay off the loan.
At first, the guards did not let the protesters gathered outside the company building, nor the journalists inside the office.
According to Vlast.kz, Wolt couriers prepared a letter to the management, in which they demanded to return the previous rates for their work and to suspend the recruitment of new employees.
One of the Wolt managers, who introduced himself as Madiyar Narymbaev, came out to the audience and said that the company was ready to invite the leaders of the protesters to negotiations. But the couriers objected, demanding negotiations with all those present.
The head of the social welfare department of Almaty, Nazira Togizbayeva, and employees of the labor inspectorate also arrived at Wolt. Togizbayeva began to scold them for the fact that they went to the protest action, and did not apply with a letter to the akimat.
As a result, several couriers entered the company’s office for negotiations. At the same time, they announced that they would go to a protest action tomorrow if their demands were not met, Vlast.kz reported.
