In Uzbekistan, two senior officials responsible for the development of IT-technologies have been dismissed. They are Minister for Development of Information Technologies and Communications Shukhrat Sadikov and Adviser to the Prime Minister, Head of the Department for Development of IT Technologies, Telecommunications and Innovation Olimjon Umarov.
The layoffs are related to the blocking of social networks and instant messengers, which occurred the day before. Yesterday Shavkat Mirziyoyev fired the head of the State Inspectorate for Supervision of Information and Telecommunications (Uzkomnazorat) Golibsher Ziyayev for “erroneous and inconsistent actions” that led to the blocking.
After that, the press secretary of the president, Sherzod Asadov, noted that law enforcement agencies will conduct investigative actions into the blocking of social networks and messengers. “Based on the results of the investigation, appropriate measures of responsibility will be applied against all responsible leaders responsible for the incident,” he stressed.
