Dear Reader,
Recent years have seen the closure of nearly all foreign news bureaus across swathes Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia.
But these countries, shaped by centuries of culture, history and political turmoil, are experiencing a new dawn. Their markets are growing. Investment opportunities are multiplying.
Most of the region’s entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and policy makers, grew up free of the limitations of the Soviet Union that once held their countries back. They have shaped a new, exciting, and at times fragile world.
Without the backing of the world’s major news organisations, in an increasingly global world, their voice is in danger of being lost.
We at the Tribune believe they are the future. So where other news organisations are shutting their bureaus, we are opening ours.
The Tribune is the result of efforts of international experts in various fields excited by the opportunity to provide high quality news and analysis of the Eurasia region which is independent and unbiased.
We are committed to high quality coverage of the economic, political, financial, and cultural life of this diverse, rich, but yet under-reported region of the world.
We aim to serve investors, policy makers, and the general reader with a sweeping kaleidoscope with which to better understand emerging trends and ongoing issues in the broader Eurasian space.
The Tribune is not owned by a single investor or by a national government. We are an independent media organisation, free of political affiliations. We are funded by the support of a number of international businesses, subscriptions from readers and from its commercial and advertising activity. We are open to building relationships with new partners and donors who support our goals of accurate and fair journalism.
Our independent editorial team includes some of most experienced and respected journalists in the region, who put accuracy and fairness at the heart of what they do.
In the coming months we will be significantly adding staff and resources and increasing our already significant daily output of our initial core countries – Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan, as well as Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Turkmenistan.
We will also be providing a regular newsletter summarizing important developments in our part of the world.
The management and editorial staff of the Tribune are proud to present this, our official launch edition. We hope you enjoy the reading, and look forward to our ongoing expansion in the coming months and years.
We encourage all to sign up at the bottom of our home page for our free daily editions and our newsletter.
With thanks
The Tribune editorial team
