Shares in two companies that control parking lots in Almaty have been transferred to state ownership, the city’s mayor’s office announced on Monday evening. The ultimate owner of the shares was businessman Kairat Boranbaev, who has been under arrest since mid-March.
“70% of the shares of Almaty Spetstechparking Service LLP and 100% of the shares in Alan Parking LLP were returned to the ownership of the city. The owners decided to return paid sidewalk and square parking lots to the state after initiating a criminal case and accusations of embezzlement,” the akimat said in a statement.
The directors of both companies are under arrest on suspicion of embezzlement.
The akimat noted that all paid parking lots are “completely in communal ownership.”
