Construction has begun on the new road to Kalbajar, a key mountain town in Azerbaijan situated near the Armenian border.

“The road to Kalbajar region will be built by crossing the Ganja-Toganali road through Omar pass. Construction of the road will begin next month,” report.az cited the chairman of the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads (AAYDA) Saleh Mammadov as saying.

A Turkish company is also involved in the construction. The road’s construction will involve building a tunnel of up to 12-km, Mammadov said at a briefing.
