On March 17, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe decided to suspend all relations with Belarus as a result of the country’s active participation in the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine.
This also applies to Belarus’ participation in partial agreements of the Council of Europe, including the Venice Commission, but “without prejudice to the rights of Belarus as a treaty party to international conventions.”
“The Committee also decided to end all technical cooperation with Belarus. However, the Committee of Ministers decided to maintain and strengthen relations with Belarusian civil society and the opposition in exile. Additional initiatives will be taken in this regard soon,” the statement said.
