According to Armenia ex-president Robert Kocharyan, Armenia should not rely on the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to protect its security.
Speaking at a press conference today, Kocharyan said: “We have borders with four countries, and I don’t think a sane person would expect threats from Georgia or Iran. But the other two- Azerbaijan and Turkey obviously pose a serious threat to Armenia. All CSTO countries, except for Russia, have closer relations in all spheres with both Turkey and Azerbaijan.”
He reminded that the Turkic-speaking countries of CSTO –Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan – are also members of other organizations along with Turkey and Azerbaijan. Kocharyan pointed out that even at the level of personal contacts, the leaders of these countries are closer to the president of Azerbaijan.
