Analysts at the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) have assessed the consequences of Uzbekistan’s possible accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), PODROBNO,UZ reported citing the Kommersant newspaper.
According to their forecast, such a step would allow Tashkent to significantly increase the inflow of infrastructure investments and remittances, increase exports, and strengthen industrial cooperation. The EAEU itself, according to experts, would also benefit from the expansion: they call Uzbekistan one of the key elements of the “puzzle” of economic integration in Central Asia. In Tashkent, however, they are in no hurry to make fateful decisions.
EDB analysts released a report on the prospects and potential effects of Uzbekistan’s economic integration into the EAEU (which, in addition to Russia, includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan). According to them, the entry of this country into the EAEU will give it a number of advantages. First, according to experts, the annual potential volume of infrastructure investments from the EAEU to Uzbekistan may amount to $ 1-1.5 billion. This will provide an additional 0.3-0.4 percentage points of growth in the republic’s real GDP per year.
