A large mining farm in the Zhambyl district of the Almaty region was identified by specialists from the region’s anti-corruption service together with employees of the regional department of economic investigation. It was organized by foreign investors, the Anti-Corruption Agency said.
“Foreign investors placed a cryptocurrency mining company under the guise of producing textile products on the territory of a former cloth factory. As it turned out, the organizers of the mining farm, illegally using the technical conditions of electricity, increased the power of electricity consumed, while paying its cost at a reduced rate. During a search on the territory of Kargaly JSC, experts found more than 2,800 pieces of equipment with an encryption complex for cryptocurrency mining, worth more than 1 billion tenge,” the anti-corruption service said in a statement.
According to preliminary estimates, the state suffered almost 131.2 million tenge of damage. In addition, the organisers of the mining farm paid bribes from 50,000 to 1.5 million tenge to employees of Alatau Zharyk Kompanysy JSC and the Zhambyl District Electric Zone.
