Today Kazakhstanis celebrate one of the main public holidays – Independence Day. This year marks 30 years of our independence, reports Total.kz.
The holiday is celebrated on December 16 and 17 in accordance with the law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On state independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan”. In 1991, on December 16, the Supreme Council adopted the law “On the independence and sovereignty of the state.”
Prior to that, on December 1, 1991, the country’s first presidential elections were held, as a result of which the candidacy of Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev was supported by more than 98% of voters.
After the nationwide elections in 1991, Nursultan Nazarbayev took the solemn oath.
