According to a Ukrinform correspondent, this was stated by the First Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vasyl Shkurakov during the MINTRANS Forum 2021.
“We plan to electrify more than 500 km of railways by 2024 in order to connect Kyiv with all regional centers by modern high-speed Intercity trains,” Shkurakov said.
According to him, it is also planned to open high-speed passenger traffic by rail to Warsaw.
“We are currently preparing a feasibility study for this project and plan to start its practical implementation next year,” the official said.
He is convinced that large-scale modernization of Ukrzaliznytsia’s infrastructure and involvement of foreign partners in this process will make it possible to bring the state-owned enterprise out of economic decline in the coming years.
