The Kazakh power grid operating company KEGOC accused Uzbekistan of the blackout. According to the Kazakh side, the cause of the incident was a short circuit, as a result of which six power units at the Syrdarya TPP were turned off at once, Podrobno.uz correspondent reports.
“On January 25 at 11:59 Nur-Sultan time in Uzbekistan, due to a short circuit, 6 power units at the Syrdarya TPP were switched off with a total loss of generation of more than 1,500 MW. parallel operation with the energy systems of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. As a result, there was a “surge” of power for the 500 kV transit “North-East-South of Kazakhstan” with its subsequent overload,” KEGOC said in an official statement.
Thanks to the correct and timely operation of KEGOC emergency automatics, all power plants in the southern regions of Kazakhstan remained in operation, continuing to supply electricity and heat to consumers with a total capacity of about 1,500 MW.
