During the ceremony of accepting credentials from the ambassadors of a number of states, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, outlined the position of Kazakhstan in connection with the situation in Afghanistan. Press Secretary of the President Berik Uali announced this on Facebook.
Kapital.kz quotes the text of the president’s speech published by Berik Uali on Facebook:
“The pragmatic foreign policy of Kazakhstan is of particular importance against the backdrop of a serious crisis in Afghanistan. Although we have no common borders with this war-torn country, there is only one hour flight from Almaty to Kabul. I am in close contact with my colleagues from the CIS countries, the European Union and the Middle East. I am always ready to exchange views with the heads of your states and governments, if such an intention is expressed.
In the meantime, turbulent events in Afghanistan have drawn attention to regional security problems. Kazakhstan is ready to cooperate with your countries in order to curb the spread of violence, drug trafficking and uncontrolled migration outside Afghanistan.
