In an interview with Euractiv, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Kazakhstan Timur Suleimenov voiced the country’s official position on the situation in Ukraine and sanctions against Russia, Deputy Prime Minister – Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi told reporters on the sidelines of the government. He stressed that Kazakhstan does not recognize the “LPR” and “DPR” and should not be used to circumvent anti-Russian sanctions.
“Yes, yes,” Tleuberdi said, answering the question whether Suleimenov expressed the agreed position of the state. – At the moment we do not recognize both the “Luhansk People’s Republic” and the “Donetsk People’s Republic”. All sanctions are directed against Russia by the European Union and the United States, we do not join these sanctions.”
He stressed that two points are important for Kazakhstan: that there is no negative impact of these sanctions on the development of the country’s economy and that the territory of Kazakhstan is not used to circumvent these sanctions.
