The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee unanimously supported a bill to evaluate the Nord Stream 2 project for corruption and, in the event of violations, to impose sanctions on related individuals and legal entities.
This was reported by the press service of the National Joint Stock Company “Naftogaz of Ukraine” with reference to the Chairman of the Board Yuri Vitrenko, UNIAN reported.
According to Vitrenko, such a decision was made by US parliamentarians on Tuesday, and consideration of the document by the Senate and the House of Representatives is expected in the near future.
“These American legislative initiatives are important for Ukraine in several respects. First, they show that Congress’ position on Nord Stream 2 has not changed: the Russian pipeline is seen as a threat. Secondly, the amendment against Nord Stream-2 was promoted by senators from both the Democratic and Republican camps … And finally, this legislation can become a real tool for combating dirty money in this Russian geopolitical project, ”Vitrenko said. .
