At a joint press conference with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron said that he and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz were proposing to hold a meeting in the “Norman format”.
According to Macron, he and Scholz have already invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold a new meeting in the “Norman format”. It could happen “in the coming weeks”.
The first and so far the last “Norman” summit was held in December 2019. After that, a new meeting was planned in Berlin, but it never took place.
Negotiations in this format were designed to resolve Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine through diplomacy.
