At an extraordinary congress of the Nur Otan party on Tuesday, a decision was made to rename it to Amanat.
Yerlan Koshanov, head of the Nur Otan faction in the Mazhilis, suggested renaming the party: “We believe that the ruling party of Kazakhstan should be called Amanat as a tribute to our ancestors. We propose to rename the party to “Amanat” at today’s congress.”
The proposal to rename was supported by the chairman of the party and the president of the country, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
“In translation, the word “Amanat” means the covenant of ancestors, a command to future generations. “Amanat” is a deep concept that has a special symbolism in the history and culture of our people. It embodies the unfading ideals of independence, the values of strong statehood, and common national unity. The boundless expanses of our homeland, which our ancestors bequeathed to us. We must preserve and strengthen this invaluable heritage. This is our sacred duty to past and future generations. I support the renaming of the party to Amanat,” he said.
