The opposition calls on the Georgian authorities to follow the example of Ukraine and apply for an accelerated admission of the country to the European Union.
The country’s largest opposition party, the United National Movement, believes that parliament should adopt a resolution to that effect. Chairman of the UNM faction Khatia Dekanoidze said that the draft resolution was ready, asking to be discussed at today’s plenary session.
“I appeal to the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament to take into account force majeure and fully devote today’s meeting to two issues: Ukraine and accelerated membership of Georgia in the European Union, since the whole world recognizes that in 2008 we had a situation identical to today’s in Ukraine,” she said. Dekanoidze.
She explained that the proposed resolution calls on the government to start consultations with France, which holds the EU Presidency, as well as with all other EU member states in support of Georgia’s accelerated accession.
