President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke about the rallies that are taking place in the Mangistau region due to the increase in prices for liquefied petroleum gas, the correspondent of the Kapital.kz business information center reports.
“I instructed the government to urgently consider the situation in Zhanaozen, taking into account economic feasibility, in the legal field. Demonstrators should not violate public order … Citizens have the right to publicly express their demands on local and central authorities, but this should be done in accordance with the legislation, in particular, with the law on peaceful assemblies,” the president wrote.
On January 2, residents of Zhanaozen protested against the increase in gas prices. On January 1, the cost of the CIS in the region increased from 60 tenge to 120 tenge.
