There is no way yet to extradite ousted President Kurmanbek Bakiyev and his family. This was stated by Prosecutor General Kurmankul Zulushev at a parliamentary meeting on April 6.
Deputy Zhanar Akayev asked if the Prosecutor General’s Office was making attempts to bring the Bakiyev family to justice.
The deputy noted that April 7 will be 12 years since the April revolution of 2010 – from the day the “dictatorial bloody rule” fell.
“The number of those killed in the April events has reached 152. Does the Prosecutor General’s Office have a specific plan to bring the Bakiyevs, led by Janysh Bakiyev, to justice?” Akaev asked.
Kurmankul Zulushev replied that the department had sent letters to Belarus several times, a number of criminal cases had been initiated, but now “there is no possibility” to extradite the Bakiyevs. According to him, Belarus refuses to hand over the former president to the authorities of Kyrgyzstan.
